In 1947, the newly appointed pastor of Holy Rosary parish, Rev. Harry W. Forrester, began taking the steps necessary to ensure a Catholic education for the children of the parish. By 1954, a search committee has found the perfect piece of property on the corner of Jerome Avenue and McClean Avenue and fundraising was underway. Eventually, the parish was able to purchase the lots where the present day school, rectory, and parish center are located. On February 20, 1955, city and church officials joined with hundreds of South Beach residents to break ground for the new school. The dedication of the new school by Francis Cardinal Spellman was held on April 26, 1956. The following September the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur arrived in the parish to begin the ministry of educating the young.
Rev. Robert Mazziotta became Holy Rosary's third pastor in the spring of 1963. During the exciting years of the second Vatican Council, Fr. Mazziotta's major concern was for the crowded condition of the school and the Sisters, who were using the top floor of the school as their living quarters. Fr. Mazziotta started a fundraising drive for a new school wing and convent. By the end of 1965, the new convent was completed and an eight-room addition added to the School.
As part of the Archdiocese of New York Regional School System, Holy Rosary remains dedicated to providing a Catholic education to students in Pre-K to 8th Grade.
